Magnet Grade & Temperature Selection

A higher grade number is not automatically a better design. The correct magnet balances flux target, operating point, temperature, irreversible loss, coating and assembly conditions.

Start with the Operating Environment

Define continuous and peak temperature at the magnet, not only ambient temperature. Include reverse fields, air gap, nearby steel, mechanical shock and any thermal cycle that can move the operating point toward the knee of the demagnetization curve.

Final grade selection requires a magnetic-circuit review, but the material family narrows the route.

Validate the Grade in the Assembly

Ningbo Empire can review the B-H curve, load line, tolerance stack and magnetization fixture requirements. Prototype validation should measure the assembly output at temperature rather than relying only on room-temperature magnet data.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is N52 always better than N42?

No. N52 offers higher room-temperature energy density, while another grade may provide better coercivity, temperature margin, availability or cost for the application.

When should SmCo be considered?

SmCo is often considered for high temperature, corrosive environments or applications needing strong magnetic stability, subject to geometry and cost review.
