Choose the finish from the functional requirement first, then define appearance and test criteria.
The right finish depends on alloy chemistry, cosmetic class, grounding, corrosion exposure, masking and the dimensions that must remain controlled after coating.

A finish name alone does not define acceptable appearance. Mark A-surfaces and concealed surfaces on the drawing, agree color and gloss samples, and define limits for flow marks, ejector evidence, porosity and rack contact.
Coating buildup can affect bores, threads, grounding pads and assembly interfaces. State whether dimensions apply before or after finish and identify masking boundaries with datums.
It can, but high silicon content may produce uneven color. Confirm alloy, cosmetic expectations and sample approval before selecting anodizing.
Powder coating is common for appearance and durability; conversion coating may be preferred where electrical grounding or coating-free interiors matter.
