Why NdFeB?

NdFeB offers 10× the energy product of ferrite and 3× that of AlNiCo. For any application where size, weight, or efficiency matters — EV motors, hard disk drives, magnetic separators, sensors — NdFeB is the material of choice.

  • Highest energy density — up to 54 MGOe enables dramatically smaller magnet volumes
  • Wide grade selection — over 40 standard grades covering every cost-performance point
  • Coercivity options — H, SH, UH, EH, and AH classes for high-temperature stability
  • Shape flexibility — blocks, discs, rings, arcs, segments, and custom geometries

Available Geometries

We produce NdFeB in standard and custom geometries — magnetization and tolerance matched to your magnetic circuit:

  • Discs & cylinders — axially or diametrically magnetized
  • Blocks & rectangles — as-sintered or ground on all faces
  • Rings — radial or axial, ID/OD ground for concentricity
  • Arcs & segments — rotor and stator segments, skewed on request
  • Custom shapes — machined to your drawing, including holes and notches

Machining & Dimensional Tolerances

NdFeB is hard and abrasive — tolerances drive cost. We recommend specifying tight tolerance only where functionally required:

ProcessTypical ToleranceNotes
As-sintered±0.1 mmMost economical; suitable for non-critical faces
Sliced / profile-ground±0.05 mmStandard for block and arc dimensions
Centerless / surface ground±0.02 mmFor mating faces and press-fit diameters
Parallelism / perpendicularityPer drawingConfirmed during DFM review

Coatings & Surface Protection

NdFeB contains iron and will corrode without protection. We match coating to your environment:

CoatingThicknessSalt SprayBest For
Ni-Cu-Ni (standard)15–20µm48h+General indoor use
Epoxy15–25µm72h+Humidity, marine
Zinc8–12µm24h+Cost-sensitive, dry
Parylene C10–15µm240h+Medical, extreme

Magnetization Patterns

We magnetize in-house and verify flux on every lot:

  • Axial — through thickness (most common)
  • Diametric — through diameter (rotor applications)
  • Radial — inside or outside diameter (ring magnets)
  • Multi-pole — 2 to 60+ poles on one face (encoders, sensors)
  • Skewed — angled poles for cogging reduction

Test & Quality Documentation

Frequently Asked Questions

What grade of NdFeB should I choose?

Start with the operating temperature and required flux. If your application runs below 80°C, standard N35–N52 grades work. Above 80°C, you need SH (150°C), UH (180°C), or EH (200°C) grades — these use dysprosium additions that increase cost. Our engineers can recommend the most cost-effective grade if you share your application details.

What's the maximum operating temperature really mean?

The max operating temperature is the point where irreversible flux loss exceeds 5% at the magnet's working point on the demagnetization curve. Actual safe temperature depends on the circuit's permeance coefficient — a magnet in a closed circuit tolerates more heat than one in free space. We verify temperature stability for your specific geometry during DFM review.

Can NdFeB be used outdoors or in salt environments?

Yes, with the right coating. Ni-Cu-Ni handles most indoor and mild outdoor use. For marine or salt-spray environments, epoxy or Parylene C provides superior protection. We salt-spray test coated samples per your specification before production release.

What tolerance can you hold on NdFeB parts?

As-sintered parts typically hold ±0.1mm. Centerless-ground or profile-ground parts hold ±0.02–0.05mm depending on size. Note that NdFeB is hard and abrasive — machining adds cost, so we recommend specifying tight tolerances only where functionally required.

Do you provide RoHS and REACH compliance?

Yes. All our NdFeB materials are RoHS-compliant, and we provide REACH declarations on request. We also offer conflict minerals reporting (3TG) for automotive customers requiring CMRT/EMRT forms.
